Achievements

AAPICUC coffee growers and beekeepers use their resources responsibly as part of their commitment to the environment. One example from is that they produce compost from a mixture of cattle manure and coffee pulp; this mixture not only helps eliminate waste from the farms of the associated producers but also from Union Cantinil. The coffee pulp is stored in cement rooms and every 10 to 15 days is turned over helping with the transformation of beneficial substances. This compost will be the nutrient rich fertilizer the coffee needs and be reintegrated into the coffee after about five months of prep. The compost fortifies the coffee plants and eliminates the need for pesticides and herbicides; just one example of the work done to grow organic, sustainably produced coffee.\r\n\r\nAAPICUC is always in constant development of sustainable and environmentally friendly coffee production systems, approximately 10 produces of the association are also beekeepers, these crops intend not only to provide an economic alternative but to contribute to the nutrition and productivity of the coffee trees, they have verified that pollination increases 20% to 25% coffee’s productivity.\r\n\r\nThe producers that form AAPICUC follow the traditional washed process carried out in Huehuetenango. Picked ripe, de-pulped that same afternoon, fermented for about 24-48 hours underwater, and sun dried. Amen!
