Located in the Cajamarca province of Peru, Asociación Provincil de Cafetaleros Solidarios San Ignacio (APROCASSI) was founded in 2002 to sell coffee at a higher for the small farms in the region. Fair Trade certified in 2001, the cooperative has already financed several production and social programs with earnings from the Fair Trade revenue and they continually seek to produce higher quality coffee and improve its members’ standard of living. The cooperative supports a technical assistance team that trains its members on coffee processing techniques and provides pre-harvest financing for its farmers. They finance a school that offers training for its members in areas like administration and finance. A health education program is in place that teaches members and their families about nutrition. The cooperative is also able to help its members make improvements to their homes.
