\nCoordinadora Estatal de Productores de Café de Oaxaca (CEPCO) coffee is sourced from family-owned farms throughout the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. CEPCO members come from indigenous groups including the Mixteco, Zapoteco, and Mixe, more than 10 indigenous languages are spoken in addition to Spanish. The cooperative was founded in the midst of a severe coffee industry crisis, but today is the largest association of small coffee producers in Oaxaca. CEPCO accesses the international coffee markets for farmers to have greater earning capacity from direct trade relationships. To help the farmers develop economic security, CEPCO works with them to improve their coffee production and processing techniques. the multi-ethnic organization also works with its members to strengthen and empower their communities, address issues of social justice, cultural autonomy and grassroots democracy. They have also invested in empowering women’s groups to be the vehicle for progress in their communities.
