Background

The Laguna de los Cóndores coffee cooperative adopts this name due to the geography surrounding our farms. Within the limits of the districts of Providencia, Ocumal and Pisuquia, in the province of Luya, Region Amazonas, there is a hill called the 'Black Hill.' Its high altitude that borders on 3000m of elevation with huge areas of forest containing a concentration of native trees and wildlife uniquely adapted to the weather conditions of the place. The black hill is also the birth place of many water sources including a newly formed, heart-shaped lagoon. The lagoon was an attraction for many bird species, one of which was the Condors; seen since the time of our ancestors. Additionally, the waters that flow from the lagoon wash critical minerals off the hill, transporting them to our farms, and allowing us to obtain an exquisite coffee first cultivated by our ancestors, the Chillaos. We, as descendants of the Chillaos, adopt the name of Lagunaof the Condors for the sentimental value that is represented by the Black Hill, the lagoon and the condors. As coffee producers we identify in particular with these birds for their free, protective and bold spirit that allows us to follow in the legacy of the Chillaos.
