Background

The Cooperativa Alto Mayo was founded in 2012 by 15 coffee growers who sought to develop quality coffee, producing special coffees, caring for the environment and improving the quality of life of its members.

Achievements

Thanks to the FAIRTRADE premium, we\r\nhave implemented innovative solar dryers in our producers, which have resulted in the quality of our coffee and the improvement of prices.\r\n\r\nAdditionally:\r\n\r\nThanks to AGRORURAL-Perú we have managed to install small bridges that facilitate access to coffee producing communities.\r\n\r\nFinally: \r\n\r\nCOFFEE PROGRAMS:\r\nWe have trained up young professionals, (sons and daughters of producers) who return to share their knowledge with our producers, developing best practices that in turn lead to the sustainable production of quality coffees, while working to leave a legacy of rich soils for our children, grandchildren and beyond.

Social and Environmental Responsibility

Our certifications (Fairtrade, Organic and more) are focused on conserving\r\nbiodiversity and ensuring sustainable livelihoods by\r\nimplementing good land use practices, seeking to\r\nimprove the lifestyle of our associates, their\r\ncommunities and future generations.\r\n100 % COFFEE FARMS (Fair-trade)\r\n70 % COFFEE FARMS (Organic, Smithsonian Bird Friendly)\r\n40% COFFEE FARMS (Rainforest Alliance)\r\n40% COFFEE FARMS (UTZ, C.A.F.E. Practices)

Organizational Values

OUR COMMITMENT TO NATURE\r\nWe develop conservation and reforestation programs, implementing nurseries of native plantations of coffee growing areas.\r\nSome of these forest trees are planted within the coffee farms and others in deforested areas.\r\n\r\nWOMEN IN COFFEE\r\n500 women producing coffee are part of our organization, they are an important pillar in our organization due to multitude of factors. Often serving as an example for the other producers to follow. \r\n\r\nQUALITY CONTROL\r\nWe have our quality control laboratory well\r\nimplemented, in which our professional taster (a Q Grader) tests all the coffee of our producers. This takes place in a lab where all our coffee goes through a rigorous control to ensure best practices when storing, processing and shipping to port.
